Ferrero Rocher Cake

If you want a cake to impress, then this is the one for you. Perfect for hazelnut chocolate fans and deliciously indulgent.


You will need the following ingredients:

  • 200 g Caster Sugar
  • 200 g Margarine
  • 4 Large Eggs
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 150 g Self Raising Flour
  • 50 g Cocoa Powder
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 75 g Chopped Hazelnuts

You will also need the following for the buttercream and decoration:

  • 200 g Icing Sugar
  • 250 g Margarine
  • 250 g Hazelnut Spread
  • 75 g Chopped Hazelnuts
  • 10 Ferrero Rochers


You will need:

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Weighing Scales
  • Teaspoon
  • Tablespoon
  • Mixing Spoon
  • Electric Mixer / Kitchen Aid
  • 2 Cake Tins
  • Sieve
  • Baking Paper
  • Cooling Rack


Step 1

Firstly, preheat the oven to 180°C, and prepare the cake tins by greasing and lining them with baking paper.

Step 2

Using an electric mixer, combine 200 g of caster sugar with 200 g of margarine.

Step 3

Mix one egg at a time into the mixture and add 1 tsp of vanilla extract. Continue to mix until completely smooth.

Step 4

Sift and slowly stir in 50 g of cocoa powder, 150 g of self-raising flour and 1 tsp of baking powder.

Step 5

Stir in 75 g of chopped hazelnuts, ensuring they are distributed evenly throughout the mixture.

Step 6

Split the mixture evenly between the two cake tins and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Check if thoroughly baked using the toothpick test, and allow them to cool completely on a cooling rack.

Step 7

To create the buttercream icing, mix together 200 g of icing sugar, 250 g of margarine and 250 g of hazelnut spread.

Step 8

Start by spreading a generous layer of buttercream in-between the two layers of sponge and sandwich them together.
Next, completely cover the cake with a thin layer of icing and smooth.

Step 9

Put the remaining icing into a piping bag, and using the nozzle of your choice, pipe 9 large evenly spaced swirls around the top edge of the cake. Pipe smaller swirls around the bottom of the cake, where it meets the plate/board.

Step 10

Sprinkle the top centre of the cake, and the bottom swirls with hazelnuts . Place 9 unwrapped Ferrero Rochers on top of each swirl, and one wrapped one in the centre.
