Okay, I’ll admit it. Beautiful pastries never fail to make me swoon. So when I heard that Flor Patisserie was offering IG-worthy Japanese-style pastries in town, I was giddy with excitement to pay a visit.
Flor Patisserie first opened at Duxton Hill in 2010, helmed by a chef trained in Le Cordon Bleu. It was so popular that it expanded to more outlets. Just last year, they decided to relocate their Takashimaya branch to Capitol, near other eateries such as Carmen’s Best. They are now directly connected to City Hall MRT Station, allowing customers to visit them more conveniently.

Food at Flor Patisserie
We dove straight into the Yuzu Strawberry Tart ($12.50++), which was dainty and topped with bright red strawberries. According to the staff members, the tart was so popular during its launch that it won a place on the cafe’s permanent menu.
The scent of yuzu instantly hit me as I pulled the crumbly tart apart, revealing a firm custard that held its shape perfectly. Biting into the brittle pastry, I got an instant hit of citrus.
The yuzu flavour of the custard was distinct, and I could see it pandering to those who love the Japanese fruit. It definitely did not taste artificially sweet as many yuzu-flavoured items tend to be, but instead had an enjoyable tanginess.
We went for the Blue Cumulus ($8++) next, an eye-catching blue dessert. Pushing my fork gently into the little cake was effortless because of how soft the yoghurt mousse was.
There was a very substantial amount of cream for how small the cake was, with a dollop of blue cream and another thick layer of yoghurt mousse encasing the sponge. This liberal amount of yoghurt mousse was soon justified by its light and airy texture and how easily it melted in my mouth.
Tinged with the honeyed sweetness of fresh melon slices, the mousse reminded me of fruit yoghurt. Definitely the star component to the dessert. The sponge was light and easy to eat.
The store described the butterfly blue pea cream on top as a cremeux, so I expected a dense pudding-like cream. However, it was only a tad thicker than regular cake icing, with a similar taste. Overall, I felt the ultra-creamy Blue Cumulus could have benefitted with an addition of a different texture. Perhaps a little crunch.
Flor Patisserie also serves sliced cakes so we decided to get the colourful Lemon Souffle ($8.50++). This delicate slice was reminiscent of a light cheesecake, with heaps of lemon zest.
The lemon was very tart, so much so that it reminded me of Sunquick’s lemon concentrate. While those who appreciate the natural sourness of lemon may find this cake enjoyable, I would have preferred a more balanced profile, with the cheese and fruit elements better incorporated.
Flor Patisserie is best known for fruit-based desserts. However, they are also home to a handful of other confectioneries and we decided to try the Royce Chocolate Tart ($8.50++) — just for our chocolate-loving readers.
Extremely dense with a combination of dark and milk chocolate, the tart was basically a rich chocolate pie. Just a tad more cream in the mix and this would have been a dreamy bittersweet chocolate dessert.
Ambience at Flor Patisserie
Flor Patisserie is located in Capitol Mall, easily accessible through Exit D of City Hall MRT Station. Its interior is brightly lit with natural light from their tinted windows. With the dainty decorations and chic interior design, the patisserie also serves as a nice backdrop for some IG-worthy shots. Abundant seats which extend out of the cafe are also available.
I had a hard time deciding what I felt about Flor Patisserie’s desserts. While I was impressed by Flor’s quality of fruits used and the textures of their cakes, their blue cumulus lacked a finishing touch. Their lemon souffle could have also been more enjoyable with greater balance in flavours.
Flor Patisserie has an extensive menu, which also features interesting seasonal items. It was difficult to decide which pastries to try as there are so many, and those we picked may not truly reflect the quality of their pastries. Overall, these IG-worthy pastries left some to be desired, especially for the price.
